Key Highlights

The 2018 DRC Romanée-Conti Is Up 40% YOY

As the top wine produced by the world-renowned Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, the wines from the La Romanée-Conti vineyard are some of the most sought-after wines in Burgundy and the world. As the wines of Burgundy have seen steady valuation growth over the last year, DRC Romanée-Conti has experienced healthy growth of 40% YOY, and market conditions remain favorable, which suggests that this momentum could continue moving forward.

2018 DRC Romanée-Conti Is In Running for Best Ever Vintage

Receiving 99+ points from esteemed Burgundy critic Burghound and 98-100 points from Burgundy critic Jasper Morris, the vintage is widely agreed to be one for the record books. Burghound best encapsulates the vintage when he states, "I was knocked out by just how marvelous this is, and while it's obviously much too early to be tossing around "one of the greatest ever" accolades, it's at least possible that the 2018 RC could well be a candidate, which is of course really saying something."

Only One 3-Pack For Sale Globally At 41% Above Vint Offering Price

Complete original wooden cases of DRC Romanée-Conti are some of the most difficult assets to acquire in the wine world. At the time of writing, there is only one other 3-pack case of DRC Romanée-Conti available in the world, with an asking price 41% above Vint's offering price, with the wine listed at over $47,000 a bottle.

Collection Description

Exclusively owned by renowned Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, the monopole vineyard La Romanée-Conti is potentially the most famous in the world. This quality has been recognized since 1584, when the parcel was singled out and separated from a larger group of vineyards. The vineyard gained its La Romanée name in 1651 and evolved to the final La Romanée-Conti when it was purchased by Loius-François de Bourbon, Prince of Conti, in 1760. It is salient to note that today there is another monopole vineyard named La Romanée. This vineyard only acquired the name in the early 1800s after La Romanée-Conti had already appended the prince’s name. Recognizing the outstanding quality, the prince paid ten times more for the vineyard than was paid for the famed Clos de Beze in Geverey-Chambertin only ten years prior and took the wines off the market, reserving them for his private court use only. This high regard has since spanned centuries, with the vineyard still regarded as a paragon of Burgundy to this day.

At only 1.81 Ha (4.47 acres), very little wine from the DRC Romanée-Conti is produced in any given year. Combine the limited production with the vineyard’s reputation for producing some of the best wines in the world, and the result is high valuations. These valuations are further increased in high-quality vintages, like the 2018 vintage featured in this collection. 2018 has been lauded by critics as one of the best vintages, not only of the century, but of all time. When speaking of the 2018 DRC Romanée-Conti, famed Burgundy critic Burghound reiterated this assertion, stating:

“2018 could be thought of as having the fruit intensity of 2015 with the very high maturity of 2003, which might lead you to conclude that 2018 is a modern incarnation of the legendary 1947.”

The extremely high praise from critics has left collectors clamoring for the wines and has driven the 2018 DRC Romanée-Conti to be the highest valued single bottle of wine from the 2018 vintage listed on Wine-Searcher. While single bottles of DRC Romanée-Conti are certainly coveted, the ultimate prize for collectors is a complete case of wine in the original wooden cases from the domaine, which is just what is featured in this collection. At the time of writing, there is only one other three-pack case of 2018 DRC Romanée-Conti for sale globally, and the asking price is $141,000, 41% higher than the Vint thesis price.

With scores of 99+ points from Burghound and 98-100 points from Jasper Morris, author of the top Burgundy resource “Inside Burgundy,” the 2018 DRC Romanée-Conti truly stands out, even among other vintages from the esteemed vineyard. This strong vintage has seen its valuation rise 40% over the past year and shows no sign of slowing as the demand for top-tier Burgundy continues to grow. As the crown jewel and namesake of the world-famous Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, the wines produced from the La Romanée-Conti vineyards have been heralded for centuries and are the ultimate addition to any wine investment portfolio.
